Our places to stay in the North-Eastern Cantons are in six cantons we have lumped together: Schaffhausen, Thurgau, St Gallen, Glarus and Appenzell. The last is made up of two half cantons, Inner and Ausser Rhoden.
Perhaps the most picturesque of these is Appenzell, which stretches from Lake Constance up to Alpine pastures. The lakeside food is a delight: plenty of fish, mostly from Lake Constance. On the Appenzell plateau cheese is a big feature – try the very smelly Rasskase.
As elsewhere, our selection of places to stay in the North-Eastern Cantons of Switzerland offers an exceptionally interesting range to choose from: guesthouses, restaurants-with-rooms and small hotels. Whichever, they all have the special qualities of hand-picked character and charm we seek out.
