When two enthusiasts with no previous catering industry experience get together to create a new enterprise it often leads to a unique, charming and personal result. Lee and Amelia Thornley are no exception. After meeting during a Spanish class in the village of Vejer de la Frontera, they bought an old farmhouse together and spent two years transforming it into a stunning place to stay while respecting the original architecture.
It's surrounded by countryside and the hilltop town where the couple met is only minutes away - a picturesque place, with whitewashed houses and views of the Atlantic Ocean. Details such as the old wooden studded doors, picture-windows with shutters and the antiques dotted around work well with the modern additions, such as the big bathtubs and Egyptian cotton bedcovers.
The nine bedrooms are all decorated with fresh, bright colours and include private terraces with views. There is also a three-bedroomed suite, perfect for families with its own pool and garden. Another pool, surrounded by olive trees and bushes of rosemary and lavender, is for all guests.
There's an outside kitchen, a bar and a traditional salon with a fireplace for the winter and large French doors that can be opened up in the summer. The combination of luxury and Spanish influence gives the hotel a cosy, homely feel with all the perks of staying at a hotel.
