An exciting new find in Chora is this charming little family home, run as a hotel for some 30 years now but recently given a new 'boutique-hotel' look by Australian-Greek owner, Jonathan Varnalis. Zorzis is on a relatively quiet, pedestrian street in the middle of Chora (most of the other buildings are shops, not bars, and those to the rear of the hotel are private homes, so it is quite quiet at night). Its individual style is evident inside and out. Greek antiques and icons on the stairway and in the corridor mingle with original graphic artwork. Beds have patchwork quilts and the (admittedly tiny) shower rooms have black and white tiles and chrome fittings for an art deco look.
There is a simple sun-deck on the roof and a shared balcony to the front of the hotel, and the two suites each have a private balcony. To the rear of the building is a terrace, shaded by vines, which backs on to the tiny gardens of neighbouring houses, and there are a couple of round cafe tables at the front of the hotel, beside Kalogera Street. The manager is very friendly, professional and helpful, and the Zorzis is excellent value for money compared with most Mikonos hotels.
