Large suburban villa, extensive grounds
Choice is the defining factor at the Birkenhof. Not only are you offered a selection of ‘standard room’, ‘deluxe room’, ‘junior suite’ or ‘suite’, there are also a variety of locations in which to stay: the main house; the bungalow in the hotel’s garden; and the ‘Guesthouse Mellensee’, less than a kilometre from the main house, has a few rooms and the basic fitness suite. Frau Fichtner can also arrange accommodation in two self-catering, serviced apartments nearby.
The main house is proudly described as an ‘English Landhouse’ (English country house) and was built in 1951 by the general director of Dunlop , who was so keen to make it genuine that he commissioned an architect from Birmingham. The resulting large white house with its sloping, red-tiled roof would indeed not look out of place in England and its extensive garden adds to the peace.
