Any hotel that quotes Oscar Wilde in its brochure must be worth a visit and our inspector thought Pre Fleuri's sentiments particularly appropriate for those on holiday with their loved ones: 'After a good meal one bears no grudge against anybody, not even one's own family', Marie-Odette von Baren proves that a woman can manage a Swiss kitchen, providing splendid French food in the small dining-room or out under the stars in the garden, fragrant with flowers.
This must be the only hotel in this part of Switzerland without a view of the lake and, although situated on a crossroads, there is little sound of traffic. All bedrooms, whether in the original house or the modern annexe, overlook the garden at the back and most have balconies with cheerful striped sunshades. Not surprisingly, those in the old building have more atmosphere but overall, furnishings are unexceptional. In this case, our reporter did not mind: 'Just give me the comfortable beds, the peace and quiet and the sunlight streaming in though open windows. I dont even mind the small bathrooms. No wonder guests return again and again to this quiet oasis.'
