The large and prosperous region of Rhone-Alpes contains one of our most enchanting places to stay, the Chalet Hotel de la Croix-Fry – a high mountain chalet with stupendous views. At the heart of the region is France's second city, Lyon, astride the Rhone. Other major centres are Grenoble and St Eienne. The landscape is very diverse, embracing the plains of Bresse in the north, the suburbs of Geneva and Lake Geneva's south shore, the dry eastern flank of the Massif Central (west of the Rhone), the foothills of the Alps and some of their highest peaks.
