Our selection of places to stay in Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, the most south-easterly region of France, is more interesting in the hills behind the coast than on the famous Cote d'Azur itself. However, there is one place on the coast, Les Deux Freres at low-key Roquebrune, that we really like.
At the eastern end of the coastal strip, inland from the major resorts of Cannes, Nice and Monaco, it quickly becomes mountainous: here you are in the coastal foothills of the Alps, the Alpes Maritimes.
As elsewhere, our selection of places to stay in Provence-Alpes-Cote d'azur offers an exceptionally interesting range to choose from: guesthouses (chambres d'hote), restaurants-with-rooms and small hotels. Whichever, they all have the special qualities of hand-picked character and charm we seek out.
We have recently taken Cacharel Hotel off the site and can no longer recommend it. If you would like to know why, please email our web editor on charmingsmall.hotels@zen.co.uk.
