Much of the charm of this tucked-away rectory lies in the way owner Frank Lawrenson has thoroughly restored its original character - it's in superb condition, but uncompromised by trendy contemporary add-ons. All the rooms have bathrooms and are individually decorated: subtle pastel shades reign, with delicately floral cushions and curtains. There is a sense of space everywhere, but especially in the drawing room, and to complete the gracious but relaxed atmosphere guests get a high level of unobtrusive but personal attention from Frank and his team, including a butler. The books, the honesty bar and copious, well presented information on what to see and do in the area make you feel at home. One concession to contemporary design is the swimming pool's curved roof, open on one side, making it an indoor-outdoor pool. - used mainly in the summertime.
We sense that this place is always on the move. Currently it's making a foray into environmentally friendly technology, including a Biomass boiler and a conservation programme in partnership with local artisans. Staying here means you have the satisfaction of making a contribution to their cause.
The breakfast is award-winning, but room-only rates are also offered.
