Overlooking Loch Fyne, this former hunting lodge of the 3,000-acre Strachur Estate was first opened as an inn more than 40 years ago. The MacLellan family are still in charge, and have refurbished the place, starting with the sitting and dining rooms. The food here is excellent: drawing heavily on local products such as scallops and langoustines from Loch Fyne, it is light, inventive and delicious. The wine list is unusually good. A major natural advantage is the position of the inn. The views over Loch Fyne and across the Mull of Kintyre to the Western Isles are breathtaking. Many parts of the Strachur Estate, including the private flower garden, are open to guests.
