The narrow Carrer San Llorenc, with its hotel of the same name, lies in the heart of Palma's old town, only a few metres from the harbour area with its picturesque streets and the Placa Drassana, where in times gone by, ship's ropes were manufactured, hence the name. The area comes alive at night - it's a meeting place both for locals and newcomers from all over Europe. A glimpse through the wrought-iron gate reveals the San Lorenzo's welcoming character.
At the end of the 1980s, it was one of the first Mallorcan hotels to have new life breathed into its ancient walls by modern style. When it opened, it caused quite a stir: the owners courage in opening such a hotel in the heart of Palma was much admired - conventional wisdom had it that most visitors to Mallorca prefer the beach and the sea. The nine rooms are decorated in Provencal style. Beautiful design features, paintings by native artists and objets d'art reveal the originality of the owners taste. Previous visitors have mentioned that it's best to ask for a room at the back to avoid the possibility of noise from the street.
