Built by the wealthy Bonvicini family in the mid 18th century, Ca Bonvicini is a typically elegant Venetian canal-side building. After the Bonvicinis moved on, it was divided and sold off as separate apartments, but in 2003 the current owners bought the whole building and reunified it, renovating it to create eight bedrooms.
Rooms are decorated in the 17thC Venetian style, with elegant drapes, white and gold furnishings, ornately fashioned mirror frames and headboards, and antique walnut furniture - all chosen to give each room an individual feel. The owners aimed to find a balance between old Venetian style and modern comforts, and though the unabashed prescence of a large TV may jar somewhat with the air of polished antiquity they have created, the immaculate contemporary bathrooms can't be faulted. Some rooms have canal views and one has its own roof terrace. Continental breakfast is served in your room.
Ca Bonvicini is centrally located - a couple of minutes from Rialto market and bridge - but far enough from the crowds, in a mainly residential area, to give you peace. Recent visitors have praised the friendly and helpful staff, who direct you to the best of the many nearby restaurants for dinner.
