An enthusiastic regular guest of the Bellevue San Lorenzo alerted us to this hotel on the shores of Lake Garda, entreating us to overlook its large number of rooms and its use by (upmarket) tour groups and focus instead on its many qualities.
With its own steps down to the Lungolago, the hotel is situated on the main road outside Malcesine (a bit hairy for walkers, as there is no pavement) and consists of the main villa, with public rooms, and attached, the newer restaurant with rooms above. Other bedrooms (less desirable) are in villas in the grounds of mature gardens scattered with contemporary sculpture. Bedrooms are comfortable. A collection of contemporary art decorates the walls in both the older and the newer buildings.
What stood out for our readers, and subsequently our inspector, was the friendliness of the staff, particularly the hard-working receptionists who both speak several languages and for whom nothing is too much trouble. The grounds are very attractive, and the sun terrace by the pool makes a pleasant place to while away the hours. Food is excellent. Most of all, given the excellent standards and facilities, the bill at the Bellevue represents real value for money.
