A typically Tuscan hamlet isolated on top of a hill among the rolling Chianti countryside, Villa Curina Resort, a gathering of renovated farmhouses dating back to the 16thC, is the perfect spot for a relaxing break. 20km from Siena and under an hour from Florence, Villa Curina is well located for exploring Tuscany, although a car is recommended.
The large villa is characteristically Tuscan: bare wooden beams, wrought iron fixtures and tiled floors furnish the interiors. The 26 rooms are individually decorated in varying pastel shades of green, pink, orange and blue - we like the inventive use of space in each: it gives them character when they could be monotonous.
The surrounding olive trees and vineyards provide the popular restaurant ‘Il Convito di Curina’ with its extra virgin olive oil and a large selection of fine wines. The well-maintained gardens, brimming with wild lavender and rosemary, together with the particularly lovely pool with panoramic views of the Italian countryside, provide a serene atmosphere. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Siena from the pool and terrace area, where light lunches and cocktails are served in the afternoons.
With 26 rooms, Villa Curina is larger than places we would usually recommend but the highly professional yet non-intrusive service helps to create the atmosphere of a much smaller place. Future plans for development include a health spa, complete with Jacuzzi, steam room and Turkish bath. Watch this space.
