Belvedere San Leonino is run by the same family as nearby Salivolpi, and shares much of the same traditional Tuscan charm. Stone walls are a well-worn feature of the Tuscan countryside. The views are sensational.
The Belvedere has some minor drawbacks - one or two of the bedrooms and can get hot in summer; and you might get woken by local farmyard animals. But the genuine service, great food and stunning views outweigh everything else.
Off the beaten track, so San Leonino is well worth an extended stay when touring the region. Ask for one of the larger bedrooms with a view.
As one recent visitor puts it: " This is a wonderful place; it is not homogenised, sanitised mass-tourism uniformity".
