Visitors to Tuscany have been increasingly keen to drop by well-preserved, medieval Monteriggioni and spend a couple of hours relaxing in the piazza (where a bar serves snacks), browsing the antique shops or sampling the menu of Il Pozzo, one of the finest restaurants of the Siena area. Finally, somebody had the bright idea that a small hotel would not go amiss, especially since the town is peaceful and well placed for exploring the locality.
A couple of old stone houses were knocked together and converted with sure-handed lightness of touch to make this attractive hotel. The former stables now make a large, light and airy public area used as a reception, sitting room and breakfast room.
At the back, a door leads out to a well-tended garden running down to the town walls and containing what is possibly the smallest swimming pool in Tuscany. The bedrooms are perfectly acceptable, furnished to a high rustic-antique standard with stylish hypermodern bathrooms.
