La Parrina is a large farm and agriturismo estate which lies on the wide plain between the Argentario peninsula and the undulating farmland of the southern Maremma. Haunt of chic Italian yachties and very crowded in high summer, Largentario boasts what is arguably Tuscany's most beautiful coastline and cleanest sea and yet it is close to one of the remotest areas of the region where ancient towns like Pitigliano sit dramatically on tufa outcrops. The farm shop at La Parrina is popular with both locals and visitors who flock there to buy organic fruit and veg, olive oil, cheeses and excellent wines.
It is approached up a long, dusty road lined with lofty eucalyptus trees; at the end is a sprawling old villa and farm complex which has gradually been built up to become a thriving business. Guest accommodation is by no means luxurious, but rooms are comfortable and done out in pretty country style; you can choose between a B&B arrangement or a self-catering apartment. The villa backs on to a lovely garden via a long, shady veranda which makes a tempting spot from which to while away hot summer afternoons if you dont want to battle with the crowds at the beach.
