Most of the abandoned rural hamlets (borgi) that once housed small farming communities and have since been converted into distinctive hotels were located on steep hills or jumbled together behind secure walls. Borgo di Toiano, by contrast, has a pleasant open aspect: a few old stone houses, superbly restored, are spread out across acres of stone and terracotta terraces. The main public rooms also have a spacious, uncluttered feel. Bedrooms have the same mixture of rustic and modern. Swimming pool.
