A mother and daughter run this brilliant Albergo Diffuso – or collection of separate buildings. Three to be exact: the Casa Madre, the Casa nel Borgo and the Casa del Fienelle. They can be found in the tiny picturesque village of Borgomaro, about nine miles inland from the Liguria coast and its beaches.
With fourteen bedrooms, the Relais del Maro prides itself on providing quality service in a relaxed environment. There is a swimming pool, a garden and two livings rooms.
The restaurant serves breakfast, light lunch and afternoon tea but not dinner. However, there are several restaurants in the village that do serve dinner. The breakfast is well above average: choose from a selection of artisan bread made by renowned local baker Zia Bruna, an assortment of locally sourced cheese and cured meats, eggs and bacon, salmon and even Prosecco.
With the Liguria coast only a twenty-minute drive away and a beautiful landscape of hills scattered with olive groves to explore, you’ll keep busy. Although tiny, Borgomaro is worth spending a day in. And then there’s chilling out by the pool.
