It is the warmth and generosity of Neiges d'Antan's hands-on owners, the Bich family, that make this simple hotel at Breuil-Cervinia in the shadow of Monte Cervino (the Matterhorn) a great place for a holiday. From the outside, you couldn't call the large chalet, with its pebbled-dash and timber facade, beautiful. But the simple rustic interior is welcoming. Signora Bich is the chef, expert at reviving old family recipes and robust traditional Mediterranean dishes. Her son is the sommelier: in addition to a carefully-chosen cellar, he oversees an impressive range of grappa on offer in the snug wood-panelled and rough-stone bar. The hotel is ideal for families, and excellent value for money. Other serving staff are always charming and friendly and a shuttle service to the slopes is offered.
The spa and wellness area has a wood-fired original Finnish sauna withviews onto the snowy mountain forest outside, and an outdoor hot-tub, where you can sit and enjoy the stunning mountain view and stars above. The daring can plunge in an ice bath if desired after a hard day's skiing.
