Records of this former coaching inn date back to 1393. Located on the central square of postcard-pretty Castelrotto, the hotel has a pleasant, professional and energetic host in Stefan Urthaler, whose family has been in charge for three generations. Parts are ancient and charming, particularly two of the dining rooms and the bar, popular with schnapps-swilling locals.
The hotel has been recently renovated: a modern fireplace has been added to the bar and there is now a garage for guest use as well as a lift and free wi-fi throughout the hotel. Ask for one of the rooms with Tyrolean furniture and mountain views. The old wine cellar has been converted into a small health centre, where a massage room has also been added.
