This popular hotel, located in a 19thC house on the busy Via Nomentana just beyond Porta Pia to the north-east of the centre of Rome, has emerged sparkling from a major refurbishment. Not only are the rooms now freshly and stylishly decorated but air conditioned and sound-proofed, with a number of new features such as modem plugs, trouser presses and Jacuzzis. The newly-pointed façade is now an elegant pale yellow. The public areas have been refitted in a traditional style, suited to the period of the villa, with brocade wallpaper and heavy curtains. The bedrooms, once merely functional, are now considerably more elegant and comfortable, decked in richly-coloured, elegant fabrics (on walls, beds and curtains) with the colour schemes changing depending on the floor. The furniture is mostly good quality neoclassical-style reproduction which blends well with original features such as fine walnut bedroom doors. The smart bathrooms are also new. There is a small, secluded terrace behind the house, on to which some of the bedrooms (in outbuildings) have direct access, and where breakfast is served on warm days. The private car parking – albeit limited – is a big plus in this city.
