Just a step from the colourful houses and brightly painted fishing boats of this attractive resort, the Palazzo Belmonte stands in complete privacy, surrounded by a large park enclosed by high stone walls. The pal-azzo has been in the Prince of Belmonte's family since it was built in the 17th century as a hunting lodge, where guests often included the kings of Italy and Spain.
The Prince still lives here in a top-floor apartment. The rest of the palazzo and neighbouring Eduardo's House have been converted into 20 guest suites and self-catering apartments of different sizes. Rooms are large and airy, with their original features untouched. Many have vaulted ceilings; some private terraces. You can choose to overlook the courtyard, where the scent of jasmine perfumes the air, or the beautiful gardens and the sea. Despite the grandeur, the atmosphere is relaxed. Within the park, Villa Belmonte has 29 luxurious air-conditioned rooms, many with private terraces and sea views.
A path through the garden leads to a gorgeous pool, bordered by flowers, and beyond to a gate, which takes you down the sandy, gently-shelving beach, solely for guests' use. Meals are served at the restaurant on the Belvedere terrace; breakfast and drinks at the pool bar.
