Within easy reach (about half an hour's drive) of Frankfurt city centre and its airport, and only a few kilometers from Wiesbaden and Mainz, Kronenschlösschen makes a convenient haven for the executive traveller, in peaceful surroundings. It contrasts strongly with our other recommendation, Zum Krug, in the same cobbled wine town of Hattenheim.
While the former is a simple, atmospheric weinstube, Kronenschlösschen is full of swags and drapes, marble and velvet, with three function rooms (one with a lovely tiled stove, another with an evocotive mural on the walls). It has its idiosyncracies, both in the interior decoration and in the architecture. All the rooms and suites are differently decorated, some in light modern style, some more old-fashioned, using dark reds and deep blues; all have polished antique pieces and ritzy marble bathrooms.
The exterior is rather whimsical, white-painted with grey slate roofs, onion-shaped domes capping towers and pretty stepped gables. The house is surrounded by an attractive garden, with a shaded terrace for summertime. The hotel's two restaurants, one gourmet, one 'bistro' are well thought of.
