Not our normal offering, but Villa Fenelon makes it into the guide as a charming choice for those who want to stay in the heart of Paris at a reasonable price. Set in a grand property, this large premises is somewhat rambling and, in some spots, in need of some work. Decor is eccentric, almost operatic - think big swirling carpets and billowing curtains. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the service attentive.
One quibble we had is the tiny lift which is far from luxurious but the Fenelon is a fine option for those on a budget. After a light continental breakfast (served in the garden in the right weather), the heart of Paris beckons, with the Champs-Elysees just a short walk away.
