This compact Florence hotel used to be called simply Hotel Aprile, but recently, although under the same ownership as before, it has added the name Palazzo del Borgo, which is what the building was called in Medici times, when it was constructed on a street leading away from Piazza Santa Maria Novella. To be frank, the hotel could make more of its architectural inheritance than merely changing its name, but still there are vaulted ceilings, a shady courtyard (always a bonus in Florence) and views from some of the bedrooms, all of which have now been renovated, of the church of Santa Maria Novella. Prices have hardly risen, so the Aprile still makes a very comfortable base in Florence.
