Martin Bland is meticulous in attending to every detail of this award-winning seafront hotel, which he has been improving for over 40 years now. He could not, however, improve on its location: right on Llandudno's attractive promenade, opposite the carefully restored Victorian pier and sheltered from inclement weather by the Great Orme headland. Each of the nineteen rooms have been individually decorated in bright, cheerful colours with matching fabrics and furnishings: many have spectacular views of the sea. The two sitting rooms facing the promenade are delightfully Victorian yet surprisingly light and spacious, perfect for reading or indulging in afternoon tea.
The air-conditioned Terrace Restaurant is light and inviting, and is decorated with murals of Lake Como. The seasonal menu with daily changing carte, based on the best local ingredients, deserves serious study in the comfortable bar, as does the wine list, and - though it's not cheap - the cooking is right on target. All of this would be difficult to resist even without the bonus of the hotel's young and helpful staff.
