Owners, Adam and Jan, bought Trigony House Hotel 11 years ago after deciding to quit the rat-race in York and move to the Scottish countryside with their family. They’ve created a homely atmosphere founded on simple, honest comforts.
Adam’s food is a major draw. His unfussy, classic dishes can be enjoyed in the informal bar or the slightly more formal restaurant - both have cosy wood-burning stoves.
Inside and out, it’s what you would expect of a former Edwardian shooting lodge: elegant and handsome. The interiors don’t try too hard and suit the building; muted colours are used throughout for understated ambience while the building itself is well maintained. Ivy creeps up the exterior, and a large trim front garden is perfect for dogs. It's the perfect size for the operation
Although tucked away in the Dumfriesshire countryside, there are loads of things to do. Adam and Jan have a wealth of suggestions for the area and often arrange things to do nearby and in the grounds. One of our favourite activities was driving around the winding Scottish country roads in a hired vintage Austin 14. More low-key walks and cycling routes are on hand too.
