Much needed renovation has breathed new life into Braye Beach Hotel. Thoughtfully and tastefully redesigned, it is a welcome retreat for guests, and a great base for which to explore the little island of Alderney.
The old public areas have been opened up to create a big open space, including an award-winning restaurant and bar. Outside, the wraparound terrace gives plenty of outdoor seating, and allows you to follow the sun. There's a little cinema for rainy days.
The bedrooms are comfortable and cosy, and exceptional value for money. Bright patterned covers and cushions give a homely, welcome feel and offset neutral walls and furniture. There are rooms with views and rooms without, but the ones with views on to the beach are the best, and are available on a first come first serve basis. However, our inspector did comment that the windows needed cleaning - sea salt spray obscured the view - but this was after a storm and we are assured that they are normally cleaned regularly.
Deserted and charming, Braye Beach itself is ideal. Located on the edge of the beach, the hotel has great views across the bay and beyond the harbour.
