The Agli Alboretti, in the Dorsoduro quarter of Venice, is distinguished by its warm welcome, and genuine family atmosphere. Reception is a cosy wood-panelled room with paintings on the walls and a model of a 17thC galleon in its window; the ground floor sitting room is small, but a second sitting room on the first floor makes a comfortable and peaceful retreat. The terrace behind the hotel, entirely covered by a leaf-entwined pergola and set simply with tables and chairs, is a delight, especially for a leisurely meal or drink in summer. The building's fourth floor includes another terrace for guests, covered with plants and overlooking Venice.
The style of the bedrooms is simple but elegant: 19th century or nautical decor, and most have an antique or two. They come fully equipped with all the modern features you'd expect and, like the rest of the hotel, they are well cared for and spotlessly clean. The bathrooms, however, though totally renovated, are tiny, as are some of the rooms. Three are recommended for their garden views, and one also has a balcony on which you can breakfast. Family rooms, which can accomodate up to five people, are available.
