Beau Sejour, a traditional French chambre d'hotes is in the heart of the Bordeaux wine country. Built in the 18th century, it is a typical example of a 'Girondine' house constructed entirely from local honey-coloured stones. The house has been restored, with great care, by local stone masons, who use traditional tools and skills passed down over the generations.
It's a spacious, solid retreat. Each room has a homely, comfortable feel and interesting little touches. Bedrooms range in price and size: the more spacious are most expensive, but even the smallest are a fair size. Lofty ceilings add to the sense of space. Stone walls are exposed to give a rustic feel.
The garden is extensive and guests are invited to make the most of this peaceful, natural space. Shaded terraces attached to the main house have pleasant views.
Guests comment on Maureen and Jon's warmth and helpfulness, saying they go 'far out of their way' to make sure visitors feel welcome. They are also serious about food and drink - although this is technically a bed and breakfast, a set dinner is offered most nights. Maureen and Jon cook everything from scratch.


Location: the medieval city of Saint Emilion is 15 minutes by car, Close to vineyards of Saint Emilion, Pomerol, Sauternes, the Entre deux Mers, the Medoc and Castillon.

Nearby: historic cities of Bordeaux, Castillon and Bergerac are only a short distance by car. The coastal towns of Arcachon, Gujan Mestras, for oysters straight from the sea, and the Dune du Pyla can be reached by car too.
