The engaging (and definite) personality of Carola Guenther, breeder of golden retrievers, field sportswoman and mistress of 'people skils', ensures that this is a distinctive, friendly, small hotel. It's in a relatively peaceful side street near the Sendlinger Tor (one of the old city gates) and the Guenthers offer a little extra all round: a welcome, from owners and staff, as warm as it can be without being intrusive; breakfast that is not just a buffet but a feast; a small garage. Public areas consist, predictably for an operation of this sort, of bar, breakfast room and entrance area; their atmosphere is home-like and cheerful. There are books (in several languages) in every room, including the bar.
  Bedrooms, on six floors, plus a junior suite at the top, are attractively done out in an 'English' style. Floral pattern wallpapers and traditional fabrics dominate. On the Rustika floor, rooms are plainer, in softer shades. Every room has an easy chair and a table; quality reproduction antiques are artfully positioned.
