We like the way this inn keeps both locals and visitors happy. There are plenty of activities nearby, it is situated near an area of outstanding natural beauty, and is far better value for money than its grander neighbours in nearby villages. The oldest part of the inn is the bar, originally built for workers who erected the local church, and where locals and visitors enjoy the beer and a wide selection of sandwiches whilst sitting by the open fire, then totter off to their rooms, minding the wonky old flagstones on the way.
On the way to your room, admire owner Anthony Goodrich's sporting prowess: his old school photos adorn the walls. The bedrooms are smallish, but done out in a fresh, sea-sidey way, with all the creature comforts you would expect. If you need a substantial lunch or dinner, head downstairs to one of the three dining rooms that provide fresh, locally sourced food, including beef from the salt marshes at Holkham, seafood from Brancaster and game from the gentlemen in wellies in the back bar.
Parents can rest assured that their children will be safe in the walled garden. sporting an impressive climbing frame and play area. They can be watched from the terrace or the attached dining/sitting room. The Goodriches thoroughly deserve their Publicans' Pub of the Year award.

GREAT BARGAIN

Family-run, great location

Off-season rates are brilliant at this long-standing favourite We've known about Gliffaes for many years and hesitated to put it in the guide despite its fine reputation because it seemed a little large (21 bedrooms), a little imposing, but above all not especially relaxed or personal. Then one d...
